Multiskills afternoon
Today the Year 1 and 2 classes travelled by bus to Mairehau Primary school to participate in Multiskills sports. We wore our house colours and were in groups of four. We went around different stations. We had to jump in hoops, run backwards, hop, skip and pass balls over our head and between our legs. We enjoyed playing games such as scatterball. We have been learning many of these skills on a Thursday with Mrs Jones and today was all about enjoying all that we have learnt this term. A big thank you to our parents that helped on the trip today. We could have gone without your help.

Birthday Fun
We had a lovely time this week reading our shared story, 'Birthdays'. We talked about why we love having a birthday. One of the best parts was having a special birthday cake. We thought it would be a fantastic idea to have a pretend birthday and make a cake together. We mixed, measured and tested the cake batter. The lovely office ladies watched the cake in the oven while we did our reading. When our cake was ready we sang happy birthday and enjoyed eating our YUMMY cake together. Happy Birthday Room 9!

Certificate Success
Fantastic work Tarin and Lily for getting the class certificates in Week 7.
Look at those wonderful smiles! Well done to Brooke and Georgia this week. It so nice to celebrate the great things the children have been working on in class. Mrs Allen and I love how it is very hard to pick who our certificate winners will be each week.

Inquiry Ignition Day on Friday
To start our new Inquiry topic off we held a Year 1 and 2 Ignition Day. Our new topic is called "From garden to tabletop." The day started with a special visit from B1 and B2 to get us in the mood for playing fruit salad. Each class were split into apples, bananas, oranges and grapes. We stayed in these groups and went round the 4 different activities. There was soup making, taste testing, collage and kebab making. At the end of the day we got to have our tasty soup and try some fruit salad. Yummy, Yummy!!

Jump Jam Magic
Mrs Toohey really enjoyed teaching on a friday for a change. One of the neat things the Year 1 team do on a friday morning is Jump Jam. It is such a fun and energetic way to begin the day. It was awesome to see the children really getting into it!

Nature arrives in Room 9!
There was great excitement in Room 9 on Monday. Two of our Monarch butterflies had hatched. One had made it's way to the window seeking the light from outside. The other one was in the white ice-cream container. Mrs Allen took them outside to a safe place in the garden. Here they dried and spread their wings out - ready for the outside world. During the day Matthew and Brooke spotted our third butterfly hatching. We took this one out to the garden as well. The cycle starts again. We worked out we had 2 male and 1 female butterflies. Thanks Holly for bringing these in for Room 9 to share!
Lily came to school with a lovely clean jar on Monday. Lurking inside was a massive spider and it was alive!!! We have enjoyed looking at the spider. Matthew bought in a white tail today but fortunately it was not alive. Mrs Allen is overcoming her fear of spiders!! (I have taped the jar shut with Lily's massive one in it!)

Rice and Kite Fun at Developmental
On Friday we had fun making our own kites out of supermarket plastic bags. We were surprised how well the kites flew. We enjoyed decorating and adding a tail on the bottom of them. We also made an easy version of fried rice. Mrs Allen was very impressed that all of the Room 9 children tried and ate up the rice we made. Yum - what fun!
